Mobilegeddon is Upon Us: What to Do If Your Site Is Not Mobile Friendly

Every six months or so, Google makes a significant update to their algorithm, which greatly impacts which sites stay on top of the search result rankings and which fall from page one.

Typically, these updates haven’t been announced in advance. But this time, Google gave fair warning.

Starting April 21, 2015 (earlier this week), Google began targeting nonmobile friendly sites as candidates for reduced ranking results. Thus: Mobilegeddon!

In the last few years, mobile traffic has increased dramatically, and it is speculated that more than half of Google searches are performed on a mobile device. So you can imagine how important it is to both Google and consumers that the search results bring mobilefriendly sites.

Google has even said that they expect this update to have a bigger effect on search rankings than their famous Panda and Penguin updates. The basic problem is that many sites are not responsive, which mean that they were only designed to display on desktop computers and are hard to navigate on mobile devices.
