Being an online entrepreneur can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. There's a lot of work that needs to get done, and only so many hours in the day to do it. So when it comes to content creation, it's easy to neglect this vital part of your online business. Let's do something to fix that right now.
In this article, I'm going to show you three major barriers keeping most online entrepreneurs from content marketing success. By pushing past these barriers, however, it's possible to get lots more visibility, traffic, and email subscribers… because of successful content. Sound good to you? Then read this immediately:
Barrier #1: Just Getting Started
This is a barrier because, well, if you don't ever start, you won't ever have content on the web for people to consume. And if there's nothing for them to consume, how can they possibly determine if you're the answer to their needs?
But fear not, because getting started is something that you can easily do… and you only have to do it once. Because once you're up and generating great content, it will become a simple routine that you can replicate day after day.
All you need to do to get started is make a commitment to yourself. Take baby steps at first. Schedule a small amount of time to create a short blog post, article, video or other type of content. Don't be a perfectionist about it. Just get it done. Once you see how easily you can get started – commit to keep generating content. Pick a target number of days each week to produce small amounts of content, and stick to your plan.
Barrier #2: Getting Enough Great Content Ideas
If you're struggling to get enough ideas for your content, then you are definitely working too hard at this. The idea with content is to add your voice and your perspective to a topic. That doesn't mean you need to generate entirely original ideas. In fact, you shouldn't. Just look around you and see how much is written on the same topics in your niche. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
Instead of worrying about “generating” content ideas, think about “collecting” content ideas. See what others are doing, and create a system to catalogue what you discover. A simple list or swipe file can be a great way to put you in position of an endless number of content ideas. In fact, once you start doing this, you'll have more ideas than you know what to do with.
Barrier #3: You Don't Have Enough Time to Create Good Content
This is a barrier in you mind, but not in reality. You've heard people say that Oprah and Bill Gates have the same number of hours in a day that you do, right? It's really not an issue of a lack of time, but a lack of well prioritized time.
You have two choices here: not get your content created because you “think” you don't have enough time… or make sure that you set aside time for creating content. And that can happen in any number of ways. You can plan to devote a short period of time creating your own content, or you can take the time to come up with your content topics, and find someone else to do the content creation for you.
Either way, there is no such thing as a lack of time to get an important job done.
