How do you create a great Facebook ad?
No, this isn't a riddle.
The fact is that winning Facebook ads require a balance of attention getting content with a concise, and engaging message.
But, surprisingly, I see some pretty involved, complicated, and downright ineffective ads out there. Ads that clearly have not been thought through, and are probably costing the businesses behind them a pretty penny or two – both in wasted ad spend and lost revenue.
It doesn't have to be like that. Here are four important factors in creating great Facebook ads.
1) Dimension ratio and size
Even though Facebook will resize whatever image you upload to the size they require, you want to aim to be at 1200 x 628 (at least by current standards) so that the proportion is correct.
Oh, and getting that ratio right is also important for social sharing on your website or blog. You want to make sure your image is shared in full size, and not as a thumbnail.
2) Text
A strong textual call to action in the image that looks professional. But keep it short. Studies have shown that a consumers can't absorb more than seven words at a time – especially when scrolling through their newsfeed on a mobile device.
3) 20% text ratio
Facebook will automatically reject anything that has more than 20% text on the image.
4) Use Proven Layouts
There is common theme with FB images in terms of what converts and what doesn't. Eye catching + text + professional image. That's what you want to aim for.
So how do you accomplish these four things effectively and efficiently. You can always look at the ads in your newsfeed. Or try using this handy tool that the folks over at AdEspresso have created. And, once you've got an ad in mind, you can hire a designer or use a DIY solution like Canva.com (it's free).
But if you want something even simpler, my friend Mike Cooch has come up with a brilliant solution – or, rather, his team has… it's called Acme Ad Factory, and here's what's inside:
• Proven ad templates to build from…so you aren’t starting from scratch
• Built in images and graphics
• Simple editor to change colors, fonts, sizes, etc.
• Built in ‘20% Rule’ testing to make sure your ads won’t get rejected
• Built in image resizer and cropping
So if you are looking for a simple way to create powerful Facebook ads for your business – without being a designer or having to hire one – be sure to check out this tool.
