Digital Product Fundamentals for Coaches and Trainers

Digital Product Fundamentals for Coaches and TrainersA client asked me recently… “Why on earth would I create a digital product? My coaching business is interactive. Digital products can't be interactive.”

Not so fast – if, like my client, you are in doubt over the power and abilities of digital products to help more clients, then you need to take a few minutes to read this.

Coaches and trainers the world over are looking for ways to reach and serve more people and bring in more income to their businesses. And that's exactly what digital products can help you do. In fact, they are an ideal way of helping you to stop trading time for money, and start generating more of your income passively.

Let's take a look at some of the fundamentals behind successfully incorporating digital products into your business:

Fundamental #1: Successful Products Support Specific Goals

A winning digital product is the result of establishing clear goals for what the product can do for your clients … and the role it plays in your overall business offerings.

For example, you could use a digital product to introduce your methods to a new client, and help them create new habits or develop a new approach to solving a problem. This kind of product often comes with a lower price than working with you one-on-one, and can help prospective clients get a taste of what you offer, without a big initial commitment.

It also gives you the chance to start nurturing a relationship with your new client by adding them to your email list, and introducing them to more of what you have to offer.

Fundamental #2: One Problem, One Solution

Most product creators overcomplicate things. They want to cram lots of knowledge into a product. The only problem is, most people suffer easily from overwhelm. That's why simple products that address a single problem, and provide a simple, are so successful. Not only do these types of products guarantee more happy customers, but they are easier for product developers to create.

The added benefit here is that a client who finds success with one product will be more likely to invest in another from you. And the more “one problem, one solution” products you offer, the more streams of passive income you can create for your business.

Fundamental #3: Products Don't Stand On Their Own.

Give what you just learned in the previous fundamental, this one may seem obvious now, but most product creators don't recognize the power of multiple products. This is certainly understandable given that most coaches build their entire businesses around the one-on-one model.

But if you stop and think about it for a moment, one product can easily lead to another and another and another. And, somewhere in the mix, you can offer virtual coaching and one-on-one coaching as well. But with all those other products, you can give people a foundation for greater success by the time they “graduate” to working directly with you.
